Two top middleweights looking to gain some momentum in the division will meet in April.
Fresh off pivotal losses, contenders Brian Stann (11-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Alessio Sakara (15-8 MMA, 6-5 UFC) look to regroup when they meet in the headliner of UFC on FUEL TV 2.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with event sources that verbal agreements are in place for the fight, which takes place in Sweden.
The bout, which UFC officials first confirmed with Swedish site mmanytt.se, takes place April 14 at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm. The entire card is expected to air on the FOX-owned FUEL TV.
Stann, a former WEC light-heavyweight champ, climbed into UFC title contention with a string of stoppage wins over Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago. However, in a pivotal bout at UFC 136 that could have earned the former U.S. Marine a title shot, he suffered a submission loss to Chael Sonnen.
The Team Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter now takes on heavy-handed Sakara, who also recently posted a three-fight win streak with victories over Joe Vedepo (head-kick KO), Thales Leites (split decision) and James Irvin (TKO). However, he returned from a year-long layoff (due to injuries, illness and the death of his father) and suffered a decision loss to fast-rising Chris Weidman this past March at UFC on Versus 3.
