UFC 145 has added a lightweight bout between two dynamic strikers.
UFC officials today announced that Anthony Njokuani (14-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and John Makdessi (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) have verbally agreed to meet at the March event, which takes place in Montreal.
UFC 145, which is the first Canadian show of the year, takes place March 24 at Montreal's Bell Centre.
The night's main card airs on pay-per-view, and the preliminary card airs on FX. Njokuani vs. Makdessi likely will be part of the prelims.
Njokuani looks to rebound from a close UFC 141 split-decision loss to late replacement and wrestler Danny Castillo. Njokuani, a former WEC fighter who hasn't put together back-to-back wins since late 2009, is 2-4 since then, though he often puts on crowd-pleasing fights. Against Makdessi, he should be able to keep it standing.
Like Njokuani, the Canadian prefers to stand and bang. His quick hands allowed him to start his career with a 9-0 mark and seven knockouts, including a spinning-backfist KO of Kyle Watson at UFC 129 that was a 2011 World MMA Awards "KO of the Year" nominee. However, in his most recent bout, he suffered a submission loss to veteran Dennis Hallman at UFC 140.
The latest UFC 145 card includes:
Che Mills vs. Rory MacDonald Ben Rothwell vs. Brendan Schaub Mark Bocek vs. Matt Wiman Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero John Makdessi vs. Anthony Njokuani Chris Clements vs. Keith WisniewskiFor more on UFC 145, stay tuned to the UFC Rumors section of the site.
