The finalized lineup for the UFC's first Brazilian event of 2012 is complete, and Facebook is once again a part of the broadcast plan.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with UFC officials that in addition to the previously announced pay-per-view and FX portions of Saturday's UFC 142 broadcasts, Facebook also will stream the night's first fight between featherweights Felipe Arantes (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Antonio Carvalho (13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC).
Featuring a headliner of featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. undefeated challenger Chad Mendes, UFC 142 event takes place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
The Facebook stream is currently scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT). FX then broadcasts four preliminary-card bouts beginning at 8 p.m. ET before the night's pay-per-view main card kicks off at 10 p.m. ET.
The recently scratched contest between Fabio Maldonado (18-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Caio Magalhaes (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was also expected to stream on Facebook, but the late cancellation leaves the stream with just one bout.
To access the preliminary card stream, viewers must visit the UFC's official Facebook profile (www.facebook.com/ufc) and push the "Like" button for the page.
The UFC first began to stream select fights live on Facebook at January 2011's "UFC Fight Night 23: UFC Fight for the Troops 2" event. Back in November, UFC and FOX officials suggested fights would no longer would be streamed and that all bouts would be televised in some form, but as MMAjunkie.com recently reported, the social-networking website will remain a part of future UFC broadcasts for the time being.
The finalized UFC 142 lineup includes:
