Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was paid in full for UFC 141.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he did not withhold any portion of the heavyweight's purse, as ordered by a Nevada judge.
A UFC official confirmed that a $200,000 bond required to execute the order was not deposited prior to the event.
The commission was to hold around $240,000 of Overeem's pay in escrow per a judgement obtained this past Friday by his former team, Golden Glory, in a Nevada District Court. The same day, Overeem took on and defeated Brock Lesnar in the headliner of UFC 141, which took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and aired on pay-per-view.
At the post-event press conference, Overeem, whose disclosed pay totaled $385,714.28, said he had no knowledge of the court order.
A representative for the team said the judgement was requested when no progress had been made on a legal dispute that began in November when Overeem sued them in a California court for breach of contract.
"The reality is that a fighter is paid within 24 hours of the bout," stated Golden Glory lawyer Roderick J. Lindblom in a press release issued this past Friday. "Given past failure to pay management and training fees, there is serious concern on my client's part that Mr. Overeem will simply walk away with the money."
The order requested a check totaling $241,285.49 be cut from UFC parent company Zuffa to Golden Glory's corporate parent, Knockout Investments. The money included Overeem's show and win purses, performance bonuses and proceeds from the event's pay-per-view broadcast.
The day before the court order, Golden Glory filed suit alleging heavyweight did not pay a 30 percent commission owed to the team for a fight in June against Fabricio Werdum. In his suit, Overeem claimed the team owed him $151,000 in back pay and asked a judge to determine whether his contract is enforceable.
Overeem is expected to fight current UFC champ Junior Dos Santos sometime this year.
