The dance card is rapidly filling for the UFC's first Canadian jaunt this year.
The promotion today announced that lightweights Matt Wiman (14-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Mark Bocek (10-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) have agreed to square off at UFC 145, which takes place March 24 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
It's not yet known whether Wiman vs. Bocek is set for the pay-per-view main-card or the preliminary card, which is expected to air on FX.
Wiman got back on the winning track with a decision victory over Mac Danzig at UFC on Versus 6, which served as a rematch of a controversial win in his favor at UFC 115. The victory nevertheless eased the sting of a decision loss to Dennis Siver at UFC 132, which saw Wiman storm off at the announcement of the bout's result. His anger undoubtedly stemmed from the end of a three-fight win streak in which he bested the likes of Shane Nelson, Danzig and Cole Miller.
A veteran of "The Ultimate Fighter 5," Wiman now stands at 8-4 in the UFC's deep lightweight division.
Bocek knows what it's like to put the kibosh on a win streak. In his most recent performance at UFC 140, the Toronto native soundly outpointed Nik Lentz, who until that point had technically never lost inside the octagon (a submission defeat to Charles Oliveira at UFC on Versus 4 was overturned due to an illegal knee). Still, Bocek could use some momentum. Although he has racked up six wins in the octagon, he has fallen short against top-tier competition such as now-title challenger Ben Henderson (at UFC 129), Jim Miller (UFC 111), and champ Frankie Edgar (at UFC 73).
A win over Wiman could be the first step toward that goal.
The latest UFC 145 card now includes:
Che Mills vs. Rory MacDonald Ben Rothwell vs. Brendan Schaub Mark Bocek vs. Matt Wiman Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs For more on UFC 145, stay tuned to the UFC Rumors section of the site.
